A possible memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US includes an end to war on all fronts, reports Anadolu.
As reported by the Iranian news agency Tasnim, this includes a halt to Israeli attacks in Lebanon, while the US would also commit to easing sanctions on Iranian oil during the negotiations.
If the agreement is reached, the Strait of Hormuz will not be fully restored to its pre- war, but instead the number of ships allowed to pass will be restored to pre-war levels within 30 days.
Iran, according to the agency, emphasizes enforcing its sovereign rights over the Strait of Hormuz through various means, the details of which will be made public later.
Meanwhile, Iran insists on at least a partial release of its frozen assets, while the potential deal would include also a 60-day period of negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.
Tehran is also demanding the lifting of the US blockade of its ports, arguing that there will be no changes in the strait if the blockade remains in place.
The report says that any changes in navigation and transit through this strategic waterway will also depend on the implementation of other US commitments in the memorandum.
Yesterday, US President Donald Trump stated that an agreement with Iran to end the war was “mostly negotiated” and only awaits finalization. The breakthrough came after Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir visited Tehran, his second visit in recent weeks. A ceasefire in the war that began on February 28 was first brokered by Pakistan on April 8.
