The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, Armend Muja, has taken temporary preventive measures and ordered the intensification of controls for aflatoxin, after confirming the exceeding of the maximum allowed level of Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in a product for animal feed. The Food and Veterinary Agency (AUV) has ordered the withdrawal from the market of the concentrate for dairy cows "SELECT MILK GR", produced by DE HEUS D.O.O. in Serbia, as a high level of Aflatoxin B1 was found in it. According to the decision, it was ordered to withdraw the product, isolate the remaining quantities and trace its distribution to the farms where it was used. At the same time, a temporary preventive measure was imposed for 30 days against the import of corn-based concentrates and mixtures for dairy cows and calves, originating or produced in the Republic of Serbia. During this period, the AUV is obliged to carry out a documented risk assessment, on the basis of which further measures will be determined. Also, controls for AFB1 in corn and corn-based products intended for animal feed have been intensified, with a special focus on feed for dairy cows. The measures include increased controls, sampling and laboratory analysis. The Ministry has announced that the measures are temporary and preventive and will be revised based on laboratory results and risk assessment. The purpose of these measures is to identify the risk at the source, protect public health and prevent non-compliant products from entering the food chain.
