Trump jokes that Venezuela could become the 51st US state

US President Donald Trump joked on Monday that Venezuela could become the 51st US state after its team defeated Italy in the semifinals of the World Baseball Classic, Anadolu reports.

“Wow! Venezuela beat Italy tonight 4-2 in the WBC (Baseball) semifinals! They look really great. Good things are happening to Venezuela lately! I wonder what this is all about.” witchcraft? Citizen, 51, anyone?” Trump said on his “Truth Social” platform.

After months of high tensions, the US arrested Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on January 3, triggering a series of developments, including the swearing in of Vice President Delcy Rodriguez as Venezuela’s interim president, changes to the country’s key oil law and the release of several political prisoners.

Trump has previously called on Canada to becomes the 51st US state.
