US Congressman Keith Self has expressed his concern that political prejudices could affect the decision-making of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague on Wednesday, September 16. He said he hopes that such an impact will not appear tomorrow, when the verdict in the trial of former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and 3 other former heads of the Kosovo Liberation Army is expected.“An ongoing topic emerging from The Hague it seems to be allowing political bias to influence her decisions. I hope that such prejudice does not emerge this week, when the verdict is reached in the trial of Hashim Thaci and three Albanian civilians who fought for independence after many years of Serbian oppression. The Balkans is a powder keg in a region where repressive regimes want nothing more than to foment the flames of division, instead of working towards reconciliation, ”Self wrote on the“X”platform. Keith Self is a Republican U.S. Congressman from Texas and chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee's Subcommittee on Europe. He served for 25 years in the US military and has experience with security issues in the Balkans. [1] In April 2026, Self submitted a resolution in support of Kosovo's integration into NATO. He has visited Kosovo and the Presevo Valley and is interested in regional security and the rights of Albanians.
