The White House praised relations with Venezuela’s interim authorities, as US President Donald Trump met with one of the country’s opposition figures, Anadolu reports.<\/p>\n

Spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said administration officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, “have been in constant communication” with Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, following the capture of President Nicolas Maduro, describing the interim government as “extraordinary.” cooperative” with the U.S.<\/p>\n

“They have so far met all the demands and requests of the United States and the president,” Leavitt said, citing the sale of $500 million worth of Venezuelan oil and the release of political prisoners from Caracas. “The president likes what he is seeing and expects this cooperation to continue,” she added.<\/p>\n

The comments come at a time when Trump is hosting Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Corina Machado at the White House for a closed-door lunch. Details on the meeting are scarce, but Leavitt said it was “in progress” as she briefed reporters.<\/p>\n

“I know the president was looking forward to this meeting and expected it to be a good, positive discussion with Ms. Machado,” she said.<\/p>\n
