The Kurds in Syria have reacted cautiously, but also with hope, to a new decree that officially recognizes their rights and cultural identity. The decree includes the recognition of the Kurdish language and the declaration of the Nowruz holiday as an official holiday.<\/p>\n

For many members of the Kurdish community, this step represents a significant change after decades of denial and cultural restrictions. Knowing the language and traditions is seen as a step towards greater equality and inclusion in the country’s social and political life.<\/p>\n

However, reactions remain restrained. Some Kurds say they will wait for concrete implementation of the decree before they consider it a full breakthrough. They stress that paper recognition should be accompanied by real policies in education, administration and public life.<\/p>\n

As Aljazeera journalist Ayman Oghanna reports from Damascus, many Kurds hope that this decision will pave the way for greater respect for minority rights in Syria and for a more inclusive society, but at the same time they remain alert to future developments. \/message<\/p>\n
