Meanwhile, the countries of the region also apply other forms of road safety.

Traffic monitoring systems are becoming more and more present in the countries of the region, with the aim of reducing accidents, increasing traffic discipline and automating the punishment of violations. However, the level of implementation and functionality of these systems varies significantly from one country to another.

North Macedonia has already put into operation the new “Safe City” traffic safety system, which is considered among the most advanced in the region. This system is active and works automatically, recording violations as soon as they occur. The cameras monitor speed, running red lights and illegal parking. Fines are issued automatically and sent to offenders without the need for direct police intervention. The system does not include facial recognition and its focus remains exclusively on traffic violations.

The “Smart City” concept has been introduced in Albania, but it is currently in the warning phase. The system serves mainly for traffic monitoring and data collection, while the automatic fine does not yet work. The cameras are not used for facial recognition and their role is more informative than punitive.

Kosovo does not have a unified system of traffic cameras. The control is partly realized through mobile radars, which are used by the police at certain points. Fines are issued manually by police officers and there is no centralized automatic mechanism.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina there is no unified system at the state level. In some cities and municipalities, radars and traffic cameras are used, while the punishment process is semi-automatic, requiring human verification.

Montenegro has limited capacities in the field of electronic traffic monitoring. The main control is carried out through police radars and the fine is done manually. There is no unified system and the use of cameras is limited.

Serbia applies combined traffic monitoring systems, which are active. In some road axes, average speed measurement is used, as well as traffic light monitoring, with automatic fines. Meanwhile, the “Belgrade Safe City” project has a broader urban security and surveillance character and is not directly dedicated to traffic offenses.

Source: prizrenpost

The new “Safe City” system in North Macedonia, which enables the automatic imposition of fines for traffic violations, has already entered into force.
