{"id":2009,"date":"2015-07-09T17:55:46","date_gmt":"2015-07-09T15:55:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/?p=2009"},"modified":"2015-07-09T17:55:46","modified_gmt":"2015-07-09T15:55:46","slug":"136-srebrenica-genocide-victims-make-last-journey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/136-srebrenica-genocide-victims-make-last-journey\/","title":{"rendered":"136 Srebrenica genocide victims make last journey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/srebrenica2.jpg\" alt=\"srebrenica2\" width=\"100%\" height=\"\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2010\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A large number of people have come out to bid farewell to 136 Srebrenica genocide victims as they make their last journey from Visoko city to Potocari village<\/p>\n<p>The remains of 136 Srebrenica genocide victims were moved aboard a truck laden with flowers from the Bosnian city of Visoko on Thursday morning for its final journey to a cemetery in eastern Bosnia-Herzegovina.<br \/>\nThe victims will be buried in Potocari village, just northwest to Srebrenica town, on July 11 to mark the 20th anniversary of the genocide.<br \/>\nA large number of people had participated at a ceremony in Visoko city to bid an emotional farewell to the victims.<br \/>\nAzmir Hodzic from Srebrenica town, who lost his father, grandfather, nephews and many other close family members in the genocide, was one of the people who attended the ceremony.<br \/>\n&#8220;I am feeling very sad today. This cannot be forgotten\u2026some people must stop denying that it was an act of genocide,&#8221; Hodzic said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/srebrenica3.jpg\" alt=\"srebrenica3\" width=\"100%\" height=\"\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The blue truck carrying the coffins is covered with a large flag of Bosnia-Herzegovina. As it passed by the streets of the capital Sarajevo, many people from all walks of life, including women and children could be seen openly crying. Several people also showered the truck with flowers and raised the palms of their hands close to their faces to pray for the victims.<br \/>\nAfter passing by Sarajevo\u2019s secondary suburb, Vogosca, the truck will make a stop in front of the Presidency building near a special memorial for children, who were killed during the genocide. Around1,500 children were killed during the 1995 siege of Sarajevo.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/srebrenica4.jpg\" alt=\"srebrenica4\" width=\"100%\" height=\"\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2012\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Jusuf Memisevic, the truck&#8217;s driver, told Anadolu Agency that his hands and heart were heavy as he helped the genocide victims reach their final destination. &#8220;It is one of the most challenging thing in my life. It is very difficult. The victims of the genocide are always in my mind, even when I am talking to you,&#8221; Memisevic said.<br \/>\nThe convoy is expected to arrive at the Potocari Memorial later Thursday.<br \/>\nDespite the fact that 20 years have passed since the Srebrenica genocide, the remains of victims are still being discovered and funeral ceremonies are still being carried out in Bosnia-Herzegovina.<br \/>\nSrebrenica was besieged by Serb forces between 1992 and 1995 during the Bosnian War.
