Trump announces ‘friendly takeover’ of Cuba: What does it really mean?<\/p>\n
US President Donald Trump made the unusual claim on Friday, February 27, that the United States could reach a ‘friendly takeover’ of Cuba as he spoke to reporters outside the White House before traveling to Texas.<\/p>\n
“The Cuban government is talking to us and they’re in big trouble. They don’t they have money, they have nothing right now, but they’re talking to us and we can have a friendly takeover of Cuba,” Trump said, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that the situation in the country is difficult and described Cuba as a “failed nation that needs change.” Cubans.<\/p>\n
He also suggested that such a development could be positive for the large communities of Cuban immigrants in the US, who have been advocating for regime change and the return of their families to the island for years.<\/p>\n
However, the Cuban government responded that it is not conducting formal high-level diplomatic negotiations with the US, although it did not completely deny allegations of informal talks between some US officials and members of the former Cuban leader Raul Castro.<\/p>\n
