Social networks have returned to the spotlight an important decision of the Supreme People’s Court of China, according to the Italian daily “adnkronos”.<\/p>\n
On February 10, 2026, during a visit to a juvenile institute, Chinese President Xi Jinping once again emphasized the policy of “zero tolerance” towards crimes against children, linking this approach to national stability and the country’s demographic future.<\/p>\n
A few days later later, state media also announced the execution of several sports coaches and instructors who had abused their position of authority to commit sexual violence against minors.<\/p>\n
Chinese authorities have announced that the names of those convicted will be published as part of a strategy to curb these serious crimes.<\/p>\n
On July 24, 2019, after the execution of a person convicted of kidnapping, rape and filming of three minor girls, the court published an official statement on the state-run Xinhua agency stating that sexual crimes against children committed will be punishable by the death penalty without parole.<\/p>\n
According to the communique, this is not a new law, but an interpretation of the implementation of Article 236 of the Chinese Penal Code, which already provides for the death penalty for crimes such as rape.<\/p>\n
However, the innovation of 2019 was a way of communication: the court decided to make public the executions, including the names of the convicted, the crimes and the reasoning of the decision, as a means of increasing the preventive effect in society.<\/p>\n
In June 2023, a new common judicial interpretation came into force that extends the application of the law to the virtual world (online).<\/p>\n
The document defines that the coercion or manipulation of minors to send photos or videos nudity on platforms like QQ and WeChat is a criminal offence, even if there is no physical contact<\/p>\n
