Israeli warplanes have struck oil storage depots and refinery facilities in the Iranian capital Tehran, while a major fire has been reported at an oil depot in the capital’s Aghdasieh district, Anadolu reports.<\/p>\n
The strikes mark the first time Israel has targeted such facilities since launching a wider offensive against Iran last week along with the US.<\/p>\n
According to the Israeli public broadcaster, the Israeli military said that last night it had launched a new wave of attacks targeting Iran’s infrastructure in the capital.<\/p>\n
Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported that the Israeli Air Force targeted oil storage tanks and refinery facilities in Tehran.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency reported that explosions were heard in Tehran after attacks.<\/p>\n
In response to the targeting of the Tehran refinery, according to the Fars agency, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that the Haifa refinery in Israel was hit by a missile.<\/p>\n
Regional tensions have escalated since the US and Israel launched a large-scale attack against Iran on February 28, killing more than 1,000 people, including Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Ali. Khamenei, over 150 schoolgirls and senior military officials.<\/p>\n
Iran has responded with a wide range of attacks, targeting US bases, diplomatic facilities and military personnel throughout the region, as well as several Israeli cities.<\/p>\n
