The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, after the meeting with the Special Representative of the European Union for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Peter S\u00f8rensen, has stated that from March 15, the full implementation of the Law on Foreigners and the Law on Vehicles will begin, which according to him are in full compliance with the directives of the European Union.<\/p>\n
Kurti emphasized that the implementation of these laws aims to increase individual and national security, as well as enable a more efficient management of migration and traffic circulation.<\/p>\n
He recalled that since January 15, the first phase of implementation has started, which is mainly focused on informing and raising citizens’ awareness of the obligations and rights stemming from these two laws.<\/p>\n
“From the 15th, the full implementation of two important laws for our security, both individual and national, but also for efficient management of migration and traffic circulation, is the matter of the Law on Foreigners and that on vehicles, both of which are in full harmony with EU directives, starting from January 15 of this year we have started with the first phase of the implementation of these laws, this phase is more informed in clarification, information and awareness for citizens about the obligations and additional rights that arise for them from the provisions of these two laws, I am sure that we will all be winners from the implementation of these two laws foreigners will have more security during their stay in the country, more predictability and more efficiency during the processing of their applications”, stated Kurti at the press conference.<\/p>\n
The head of the Government announced that the Government will cooperate with local leaders to provide lists of health and academic staff who are engaged in providing services in the country.<\/p>\n
He also added that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will enable students temporary residence permit for 12 months with the possibility of extension.<\/p>\n
“The government will be provided by local leaders with lists of health and academic staff who are engaged in providing these services. The list will serve as a basis for granting temporary residence permits to foreign citizens who apply to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The same applies to foreign students staying in Kosovo, for whom the municipal leaders will provide the complete list. The Ministry of Internal Affairs will provide you with a permit temporary stay for 12 months with the possibility of extension”, he said.<\/p>\n
According to Kurt, the Government will also open a new three-month period for Serbian citizens to register their civil status.<\/p>\n
“The Government will also open a new 3-month window to enable Serbian citizens to “register the civil facts that until March 15, 2026 were registered by illegal structures. In this period, applicants will be allowed to use as a means of identification the ID card issued by illegal structures”, he emphasized.<\/p>\n
