US President Donald Trump joked on Monday that Venezuela could become the 51st US state after its team defeated Italy in the semifinals of the World Baseball Classic, Anadolu reports.<\/p>\n

“Wow! Venezuela beat Italy tonight 4-2 in the WBC (Baseball) semifinals! They look really great. Good things are happening to Venezuela lately! I wonder what this is all about.” witchcraft? Citizen, 51, anyone?” Trump said on his “Truth Social” platform.<\/p>\n

After months of high tensions, the US arrested Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on January 3, triggering a series of developments, including the swearing in of Vice President Delcy Rodriguez as Venezuela’s interim president, changes to the country’s key oil law and the release of several political prisoners.<\/p>\n

Trump has previously called on Canada to becomes the 51st US state.<\/p>\n
