The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, reiterated today that the United Kingdom will not be “drawn” into the Middle East conflict, underlining the national interest, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n

“I will always make decisions that are in the national interest. This is why we will not be drawn into the Middle East conflict and why we are fighting to protect your standard of living,” Starmer said through the American social platform. X.<\/p>\n

Pressing opposition parties for their stance on the ongoing war with Iran, he said the Labor government is responding with “hope and pride”.<\/p>\n

Last week, Starmer said there was a “clear difference” in opinion between him and US President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

“My personal view is that a lot of what has been said and done has been intended to put pressure on me to to change my mind, but I’m not going to do that,” he told Sky News.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the prime minister will hold an emergency cabinet meeting on Tuesday about the war with Iran.<\/p>\n

He is also expected to hold a round-table discussion with energy leaders later on Monday.<\/p>\n

His comments came amid tensions in relations between the two transatlantic allies, as the US president repeated criticism of The UK for refusing to allow the US military to use British bases for the initial US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28.<\/p>\n

The UK eventually allowed their use for “defensive” actions after Iran launched missiles and drones across the Gulf, but Starmer has since stressed that the country will not join the war against Iran.<\/p>\n

Regional tensions have continued since the launch. of the Israeli-US offensive against Iran on February 28, causing more than 1,340 casualties so far, including then-supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.<\/p>\n

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries that host US military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage, as well as affecting global markets and aviation.<\/p>\n
