{"id":2941,"date":"2016-03-15T09:03:28","date_gmt":"2016-03-15T08:03:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/?p=2941"},"modified":"2016-03-15T09:03:28","modified_gmt":"2016-03-15T08:03:28","slug":"obama-putin-discuss-russian-withdrawal-from-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/obama-putin-discuss-russian-withdrawal-from-syria\/","title":{"rendered":"Obama, Putin discuss Russian withdrawal from Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/obama-putin.jpg\" alt=\"obama-putin\" width=\"100%\" height=\"\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2942\" \/><br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nLeaders talk over steps required for political negotiations to resolve Syrian conflict.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><strong>AA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke Monday via telephone shortly after Moscow announced it would begin a withdrawal of some of it forces from Syria. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey discussed President Putin\u2019s announcement today of a partial withdrawal of Russian forces from Syria and next steps required to fully implement the cessation of hostilities with the goal of advancing the political negotiations on resolution of the conflict.\u201d the White House said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Obama expressed his pleasure about a reduction in violence in the country since the truce but emphasized that offensives by Syrian government forces imperils not only the deal but also a political process led by the UN.<\/p>\n<p>While acknowledging some progress on aid efforts, Obama urged the Syrian government to allow \u201cunimpeded access for humanitarian assistance delivery to the agreed-upon locations, notably Daraya\u201d that has been besieged.<\/p>\n<p>While Putin\u2019s announcement to pullout Russian forces surprised many, the Kremlin said Moscow\u2019s military intervention in Syria that was launched in late September had achieved its goal, without giving specifics.<\/p>\n<p>A leading American senator believes that with the pullout, Putin will now focus his attention on Ukraine, noting that \u201ca bloody spring is coming to Ukraine again\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. John McCain said Russia has achieved its goal of changing the dynamics on the ground to prop up the government of Bashar al-Assad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe announcement that Russia will begin withdrawing some military forces from Syria signals Vladimir Putin\u2019s belief that he has bombed and killed enough of the opponents of the murderous Assad regime to ensure its survival,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>McCain predicts that the Syrian conflict will continue, Daesh will gain strength and refugees will keep flowing out of the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leaders talk over steps required for political negotiations to resolve Syrian conflict.
