One of them is cytisine, a substance of plant origin that is gaining more and more attention in Europe for its role in the fight against nicotine addiction, according to Euronews.com.

Since the end of March, the health system in Italy has begun to reimburse cytisine-based drugs, making this therapy more accessible to patients. However, its use is not recommended alone: treatment should be combined with psychological support and behavioral therapy to increase the chances of success.

Cytisine acts directly on nicotine receptors in the brain, “cheating” the addiction mechanism. It reduces the pleasure that smoking gives and at the same time alleviates the symptoms of abstinence. This means that the person no longer feels the same desire for cigarettes and copes more easily with the process of quitting.

Scientific data is promising. A study in Italy showed that 32.1% of people who used cytisine were able to quit smoking after one year, compared to only 7.3% of those who underwent psychological therapy alone. This clearly shows that the combination of methods is the key to success.

However, experts emphasize that behavioral therapy remains crucial. It helps to identify daily habits related to smoking, such as smoking after coffee or during stress, and to change them. Medicine affects the body, while therapy affects the mind – and together they give the best results.

Smoking remains one of the main risk factors for lung cancer and causes millions of deaths every year globally. For this reason, any attempt to quit is not only a personal choice, but an important health investment.

In addition to cytisine, there are other methods such as nicotine replacements (patch, gum), varenicline and bupropion. Meanwhile, alternative techniques such as meditation, hypnosis or digital applications can help, but are usually not as effective when used alone.

We use cookies to improve the experience and display advertisements (Google AdSense).
By clicking “Accept”, you agree to the use of cookies according to
Privacy Policy
and
Cookies Policy.
You can reject non-necessary cookies by clicking “Reject”.

Source: prizrenpost

Quitting smoking has always been a difficult challenge, but today there are more effective methods than ever before.
