The largest French trade union CGT (General Confederation of Labor) has called for an immediate ban on French arms exports to Israel, citing more than 500 shipments of military equipment, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n
“The continued supply of military equipment constitutes complicity in the crimes committed and the escalation of a deadly conflict,” said the CGT union.<\/p>\n
CGT called for an embargo of full of weapons, strict adherence to national and international regulations, greater transparency in arms exports and rigorous enforcement of controls by relevant authorities.<\/p>\n
A report by Le Monde newspaper said the shipments contradicted the French government’s repeated statements that it does not sell weapons to Israel or supply only defense equipment intended for use outside Gaza.<\/p>\n
The report also highlighted the company’s frequent use of Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. American Lockheed Martin for exports to Tel Aviv.<\/p>\n
CGT said that France’s continued military shipments undermine official recognition of the state of Palestine and harm prospects for a political solution in the region.<\/p>\n
“Respecting international law and arms trade treaties is not optional,” the union said.<\/p>\n
French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu has previously stated that France does not sell weapons to Israel, stressing that all shipments are protective or intended for resale. He said France’s priority is to protect civilians and reduce violence.<\/p>\n
