A third of Irish petrol stations have run out of fuel, police are chasing convoys of oil tankers and some of the country’s main motorways remain closed due to protests against rising fuel prices caused by the war in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are 1,600 petrol stations in the Republic of Ireland and just over a third of them are now out of stock,\u201d said Kevin McParlan, director. of Fuels for Ireland, to national broadcaster RT\u00c9.<\/p>\n
He warned that this figure could rise to two-thirds by the end of the day if authorities do not secure access to the country’s only oil refinery and two oil terminals that protesters are blocking.<\/p>\n
In footage released by Irish police on Saturday, April 11, officers can be seen chasing tanker trucks leaving the Whitegate refinery in Ireland. southeast, suggesting that access to the facility has been at least partially secured.<\/p>\n
Ireland’s National Emergency Coordination Group announced that fuel supplies for emergency vehicles were “under increasing pressure”, forcing firefighters to abandon some non-life-threatening interventions and suspend training activities.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, dozens of parked lorries and tractors continued to block O’Connell Street, one of Dublin’s main thoroughfares, on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Blockades split by transporters and farmers, angered by the increase in oil prices also paralyzed large parts of the motorway network, causing five days of serious disruption.<\/p>\n
McParlan added that Ireland still has “sufficient fuel” once access to refineries and terminals is restored, seeking to reassure the public by claiming the situation should return to normal within days. \/tesheshi.com\/<\/p>\n
