It was within this extremely prestigious context, where the mummies were decorated with gold leaf, that a fragment of Book II of the Iliad emerged, in many famous ships, a detailed list of the Achaean contingents that surrounded Troy.<\/p>\n
The value of papyrus in the eternal journey<\/p>\n
The discovery of a classical Greek text deliberately inserted into a mummy radically changes our perception of that historical period. Because we are not faced with a piece of paper that ended up in a place there by chance, as happened with most of the finds in Oxyrhynchus, but with a conscious choice.<\/p>\n
The papyrus was probably a symbol of social status and deep education, a precious object that the deceased wanted to take with him on the eternal journey to emphasize his cultural and literary identity.<\/p>\n

Now experts are working with advanced imaging techniques to decipher every detail of this discovery. The study aims to understand not only how the Homeric epic was read and interpreted in a province far from major centers like Alexandria, but also how the power of the written word was understood as a sacred talisman.<\/p>\n
