German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s proposal that the European Union ease sanctions on Tehran as part of a comprehensive deal to end the conflict in Iran has sparked discussions among European leaders.<\/p>\n
At an informal EU summit in Cyprus, Merz said that the gradual easing of sanctions could be the EU’s contribution to advancing the peace process.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, US officials have suggested that a comprehensive agreement covering Iran’s nuclear and ballistic programs, as well as opening the Strait of Hormuz, could lay the foundations for a lasting peace.<\/p>\n
