Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has met in Islamabad with Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir amid efforts to revive stalled peace talks between the US and Iran to end the eight-week war, Anadolu reports.<\/p>\n
The meeting, according to a short video released by the Iranian embassy on the US social network X, was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, National Security Adviser and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Asim Malik, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, as well as Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam.<\/p>\n
Although the embassy did not provide further details, Pakistani sources told Anadolu that the two sides discussed issues related to a possible second round of talks between Washington and Tehran in the coming days.<\/p>\n
Araghchi arrived in Pakistan late last night for what Pakistani officials say could pave the way for a second round of negotiations. The first round was held in Islamabad two weeks ago but failed to produce an agreement. The talks came after Pakistan brokered a two-week ceasefire on April 8, which was later extended by US President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n
Araghchi will also hold talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his counterpart, Ishaq Dar.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the White House announced that US special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner will also travel to Pakistan today.<\/p>\n
Iran has refused to hold talks. direct talks with the US and has stated that observations will be forwarded to Pakistan.<\/p>\n
