Turkey’s Director of Communications, Burhanettin Duran, has stated that his country must assert its sovereignty in cyberspace through urgent legal measures, as every country already treats the digital field as a matter of national security, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n
Speaking at an event titled “Communication in Turkey’s Century” in Istanbul, Duran emphasized the increased competition at various political and social levels and said that every country “now sees cyberspace as an area of sovereignty and is taking measures accordingly”.<\/p>\n
“As you know, with the legal regulations that have been made recently and will be made in Turkey, we are obliged to affirm our sovereignty in this regard”, he said.<\/p>\n
Duran warned that Turkey faces “multidimensional” challenges, ranging from protecting children online to preserving critical national capacities.<\/p>\n
“This is really a multi-layered challenge and urgent measures need to be taken”, he added.<\/p>\n
He also emphasized that digitization has made it easier to shape public perception through algorithms, while social networks have been increasingly used as a tool of hybrid warfare by many countries in recent years.<\/p>\n
