A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Japan’s Hokkaido island today, but the country’s weather agency did not issue a tsunami warning, Kyodo News Agency reported, reporting Anadolu.<\/p>\n

The earthquake registered 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the Tokachi region of the northern main island and occurred at a depth of about 83 kilometers, according to Japan Meteorological Agency.<\/p>\n

Five above the scale is described as the level at which people find it difficult to walk without holding on to something. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage to infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The weather agency ruled out links to an ongoing warning about the risk of a strong earthquake occurring in the region. Authorities said no abnormalities were observed at the Tomari nuclear power plant.<\/p>\n

Some local rail services in Hokkaido along the Pacific Ocean suspended operations, but high-speed Hokkaido Shinkansen trains have been running as normal.<\/p>\n

The quake came amid a week-long advisory from the weather agency warning of an increased risk of a powerful earthquake after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the northeastern Japanese prefecture of Aomori weeks ago.<\/p>\n

Hokkaido is among the seven areas advised for caution.<\/p>\n
