The total cost of the war with Iran is roughly $50 billion, significantly higher than the figure presented by the Pentagon, according to U.S. officials familiar with the internal estimates, CBS News reported.<\/p>\n
The revised estimate doubles the amount cited during congressional testimony on Wednesday, where a Pentagon official, Jules Hurst, said Operation Epic Fury had cost about $25 billion by now.<\/p>\n
However, Hurst told lawmakers that estimating costs for infrastructure repairs or long-term construction projects related to the U.S. conflict with Iran remains difficult because of uncertainty over the future posture of military forces.<\/p>\n
“We don’t know what our future posture is going to be, or the future construction of those bases,” he said during Senate testimony.<\/p>\n
According to CBS News reports that the lower figure does not fully include damaged or destroyed military equipment, adding that among the reported losses are 24 MQ-9 Reaper drones, each worth more than $30 million, highlighting the financial cost of continued operations.<\/p>\n
The US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, prompting retaliation from Tehran against US allies in the Persian Gulf and the shutdown of Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
A ceasefire was announced on April 8 through the mediation of Pakistan, followed by talks in Islamabad on April 11-12, but no agreement was reached.<\/p>\n
US President Donald Trump later unilaterally extended the ceasefire without setting a new deadline, at the request of Pakistan.<\/p>\n
