We are dealing with a systematic policy whose objective is clear… to take as much Palestinian land as possible with as few Palestinians as possible, by any means, including brute force against civilians,” Bamya told the diplomats.

The Arria-formula meeting, organized by the permanent missions of Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia and the United Kingdom, focused on the challenges faced by Palestinians living in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

Bamya argued that Israeli control over Palestinian territories already constitutes a de facto annexation.

“Israel has effectively secured control over 60 percent of the West Bank and 60 percent of the Gaza Strip. The annexation we are talking about, condemned and rejected by all of you, is now our reality. So Israel, for all intents and purposes, is destroying the two-state solution,” he said.

The Palestinian diplomat questioned whether the current international measures are enough to influence Israeli policy.

“Israel will stop at nothing to achieve its goals. The question is what the international community is willing to do and what actions it already has natural undertaking to deter Israel?”, he said.

Bamya also criticized Israeli settlement policies, pointing out that security arguments are being used to justify territorial expansion.

“Israel illegally allows hundreds of thousands of settlers to come and live on Palestinian land, and then explains that their security requires the confiscation of Palestinian land, a massive military presence and the arming of these settlers,” he said, adding that “this is about colonization, not security”.

He called for greater international protection for the Palestinians, while rejecting violence as a response to the conflict.

“What about the Palestinians’ right to defend themselves? What about their right to protection? What about their right to security? We are not asking to arm the Palestinians as an answer. We are not preaching violence as an answer. We are asking for international protection, what they deserve. Where is it?” she?”, he further emphasized.

Bamya called on the world powers to help maintain hope for a peaceful solution to the conflict.

“We are trying, we are trying desperately, to find a peaceful way forward. We are trying to convince our people that there is a peaceful way that leads to their freedom, to a normal life in their land, to dignity and freedom,” he emphasized.

help show that such a path exists. Many of them cannot see it. And can we honestly blame them?”, he added.

The time for a negotiated peace may be running out.

“We all have a responsibility to define that path, to end the occupation and achieve peace before it is too late,” he said, stressing that “if it is not too late, we must act”.

We use cookies to improve the experience and to display ads (Google AdSense).
By clicking “Accept”, you agree to the use of cookies according to
Privacy Policy
and
Cookies Policy.
You can reject non-necessary cookies by clicking “Reject”.

Source: prizrenpost

Palestinian Deputy Ambassador to the UN, Majed Bamya, has accused Israel of implementing a systematic policy of annexation and territorial expansion in the occupied Palestinian territories, and has warned diplomats that the prospects for a two-state solution are rapidly disappearing, reports Anadolu.
