May 10 worldwide is World Lupus Awareness Day.<\/p>\n

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease in which the body’s immune system attacks organs and tissues. The inflammation caused by lupus can affect various body systems including the skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.<\/p>\n

Lupus affects the kidneys and is a serious disorder, as it can have a profound impact on people’s lives, reports KP.<\/p>\n

It can be difficult to diagnose, as its signs and symptoms are often similar to those of other diseases. The most distinctive sign of lupus is reddening of the skin, which resembles the wings of a butterfly.<\/p>\n

One in five women test positive for lupus-related antibodies, but only 10 percent are diagnosed with the disease. By discovering more things about the kidneys, one can also understand the origin and the way the disease develops.<\/p>\n

Although there are very few who have heard of this disease, worldwide, Lupus is more common than sclerosis or leukemia. Lupus is not contagious, it is a disorder of the body’s immune system. Although 90 percent of those who suffer from this disease are women between the ages of 15-45, this disease also affects men and children.<\/p>\n
