Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, has stated that the expansion of the European Union (EU) for Albania is a strategic choice and the strongest guarantee for peace and stability, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n
Minister Hoxha has participated in the informal meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the European Union with their counterparts from the Western Balkans in Brussels, while he has emphasized that Albania will continue to actively and steadfastly pursue the objective its main national goal, EU membership.<\/p>\n
In a reaction on social networks, Hoxha has published some of the main issues that he believes he has shared with his counterparts.<\/p>\n
“The world as we once knew it has been deeply shaken. The rules and certainties that we considered for a long time as guarantees of stability now seem increasingly fragile. Overlapping crises, geopolitical fragmentation and intensifying strategic competition have moved to the center of attention. In such a context, unity of purpose and unity of action are no longer optional, they are necessary,” Hoxha emphasized.<\/p>\n
For Albania, unity means unity in any possible form to build stronger cohesion, greater resistance and a clearer geopolitical vision. “But, in the end, the clearest expression of this vision is enlargement and acceptance in Europe,” he said.<\/p>\n
“EU enlargement for Albania is our salvation, a strategic choice, a civilizational anchor and the strongest guarantee for peace, stability and long-term democratic transformation. We also believe that enlargement is just as important for the European Union itself, as demonstrated by each of the previous seven enlargement cycles. Of course, it must remain based on merit, but also reliable, tangible and actively followed. Every time the process stalls, weaknesses appear and hostile influences expand,” Hoxha emphasized.<\/p>\n
Albania’s chief diplomat added that they should deepen cooperation in foreign, security and defense policy, simultaneously strengthening cohesion and strategic mentality throughout Europe. “For Albania, alignment with the European Union is not a menu from which you can choose selectively. It is a standard and a commitment that must be fully respected. In this regard, we allow ourselves only one percentage: 100 percent”, he said.<\/p>\n
Hoxha emphasized that strengthening regional cooperation also means addressing weaknesses honestly and solving unresolved issues with determination, adding that “The Western Balkans has definitely changed for good, but it remains important work. The Balkans of the past may belong to history, however much still needs to be done for the region to fully deserve its political and democratic meaning, and not just its geographical definition”. “In particular, the normalization process between Kosovo and Serbia cannot and should not become an empty slogan or a goal postponed forever. Twenty-seven years after the tragic events of 1999, the region deserves a future defined by stability, mutual recognition, cooperation and European integration,” Hoxha said.<\/p>\n
Hoxha emphasized that no country is immune to cyber or hybrid threats, adding that Albania’s experience has been painful and expensive.<\/p>\n
