The former chairman of the branch of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) in Podujev\u00eb, Agim Veliu, has declared that he refuses to be part of the list of candidates for deputies of this political entity for the elections of June 7.<\/p>\n
In a reaction on Facebook, Veliu has emphasized that he is not leaving the LDK, describing it as an inseparable part of his political life since the establishment of <\/p>\n
However, he added that he does not agree to “be used” and be part of a project that, according to him, takes the party away from its institutional and state-forming identity. <\/p>\n
In his statement, Veliu mentioned the internal developments in the party, criticizing the way the nomination process was managed and saying that the previous decisions about his non-candidacy have now been changed without prior consultation. <\/p>\n
“I want to dwell on the current party momentum, which is being promoted as the “Great Union”, which surprisingly includes all those who were anathematized and eliminated from the current leadership: that is, the marginalized, the marginalized and the unwanted became wanted. I do not know which category of the “Great Union” I belong to, but I know that before the elections of December 28, 2025, I publicly expressed my will to be part of the list of candidates, with the aim of mobilizing and unifying the electorate. But the leadership of the branch refused to discuss my candidacy, on the grounds that it was “the decision of the chief (Lumir)” not to be part of the race. While today, the same leadership proposed to be on the list of candidates for deputies. I don’t even know if we did Have they changed? Neither have they changed their strategies for their political survival, which they brought back to the LDK, together with Lumirin, in the “Great Union of Rightists”, I declare publicly that I refuse to be part of the list of candidates for the June 7 elections. I am not leaving the LDK, because it has been part of my political life since its foundation. But I refuse to be used and to be part of a project that takes the party away from its institutional and state-building identity,” wrote Veliu.<\/p>\n
He added that, despite refusing to be part of the electoral list, LDK, expressing the conviction that the party will return to its historical role as a state-forming force.<\/p>\n
“I am convinced that the LDK will be freed from the mentality of political NGOs and will return to its historical role as a responsible state-forming force. The LDK is greater than the petty interests of two people. God protect the LDK”, he concluded.<\/p>\n
On the contrary, this reaction of Veliu comes after the statements of the chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, who had welcomed his candidacy and said that the nomination of Agim Veli represents the will of the membership and a step towards the “great unity” of the party.<\/p>\n
