The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni has thanked the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, after his reaction on the agreement for immigrants between the two countries, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n
In a post on social networks, Meloni has shared the reaction of Prime Minister Rama, writing: “Thank you Edi”.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Rama’s reaction came after claims regarding a statement by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania, Ferit Hoxha, whether the protocol between Albania and Italy would be renewed.<\/p>\n
“A journalist in Brussels asked me if the protocol between Albania and Italy would be renewed after the end of the initial five-year period. I replied by saying: ‘I am not sure, assuming that by then Albania will be a state member of the European Union and the situation, therefore, will be different,” Minister Hoxha said yesterday in a reaction on social networks.<\/p>\n

\nOn November 6, 2023, a cooperation protocol was signed between Albania and Italy to strengthen cooperation on the issue of immigration, while the agreement caused reactions in Albania and Italy.<\/p>\n
The protocol, based on which the reception centers for illegal immigrants were set up in Albania, was signed by the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama and the Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni and ratified by the Parliament of Albania on February 22 2024.<\/p>\n
According to the Government of Albania, this protocol aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the parties for the management of migratory flows from third countries, in accordance with international and European law.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, according to the protocol, the competent Albanian authorities allow the entry and stay in the Albanian territory of immigrants sheltered in the structures that have been built, with the sole purpose of carrying out border procedures or repatriation.<\/p>\n
The centers that have been set up in the Lezha District are managed by the Italian authorities.<\/p>\n
