Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates already have two opposing visions and are involved in a kind of “cold war”.

The Emirates, the main target of Iranian missiles and drones, have chosen to strengthen relations with Israel – the main regional power with which they are linked through the Abraham Accords. Saudi Arabia, which has not signed these agreements, has distanced itself from its neighbor’s tough line.

The most visible manifestation of this conflict is the Emirates’ recent decision to leave OPEC, the organization of oil exporting countries. This step is more related to the relations between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi than to the oil issue itself.

In fact, the tension had started even before the war in Iran. As of December 2025, the two countries were close to a clash over Yemen, where Saudi Arabia accused the Emirates of supporting separatist rebels.

Riyadh had given Abu Dhabi 24 hours to withdraw its troops, and it did. This situation is even more surprising if we remember that only ten years ago the two countries were fighting together in Yemen.

Another sign of these divergences is an article published earlier this week by Prince Turki Al Faisal, former head of the Saudi secret services and former ambassador to Washington, who mentions the existence of an Israeli plan to draw Saudi Arabia into the war against Iran.

According to Al Faisal, this would plunge the region. in chaos, in favor of Israel. The prince’s attitude is completely opposite to that of the Emirates and shows the change the region has undergone in recent months. The Emirates and Saudi Arabia are in conflict on almost every regional issue.

In Sudan, they support rival sides in the civil war that is destroying the country. In Somaliland — the breakaway part of Somalia — the Emirates support the Israelis, who have just recognized the territory opposite Yemen, while Riyadh backs the Somali government.

In Lebanon, the Saudis are pressuring the government to abandon negotiations with Israel and avoid establishing relations with the Jewish state, as the Americans would like.

Because of the weight of the Emirates and Saudi Arabia, the clash is spreading across the region and beyond. wide. For example, Turkey and Pakistan are very close to Riyadh and oppose the rapprochement between the Emirates, Israel and the United States.

The cold war between the Emirates and Saudi Arabia is one of the consequences of the current conflict, which has highlighted the limits of American defense, the weakness of the Arab countries of the Gulf and the almost absolute power of Israel to achieve its objectives.

In the future, the entire regional balance will have to be rebuilt. The outbreak of the crisis that started in 2023 has not yet finished destabilizing the Middle East.

And in this geopolitical earthquake, Albania has deviated from the close partnership with Turkey, aligning itself with the Emirates – Israel line.

Is this Rama’s choice or American dictation to take this position, it is difficult to say for sure that it is one or the other.

But at a glance horizontal, this is not a good thing for Albania, only if there is an American-Turkish pact for flexible territorial influences. /square

Source: prizrenpost

Realities that have also led to geopolitical deviations in Albania: from Muslim to Jew In a region already shaken by the war in Iran, an increasingly visible dividing line has recently emerged between the countries of the Persian Gulf.
