Over time, this puts extra strain on the heart, blood vessels and other organs. If left untreated, hypertension can increase the risk of serious health problems, including heart attack and stroke.<\/p>\n<p>Diet plays a large role in the development of high blood pressure, and excessive salt intake is considered one of the main causes. Salt promotes water retention in the body, which can increase blood pressure. However, some foods can also have the opposite effect.<\/p>\n<p>In a video posted on TikTok, doctor Suraj Kukadia, better known as Dr. Sooj, talked about the benefits of eating beets.<\/p>\n<p>Why are beets good for blood pressure?<\/p>\n<p>Beets contain high amounts of natural nitrates, which are converted into nitric oxide in the body.
