The Arab League Council at ministerial level has strongly condemned the entry of Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under heavy police protection, during the 78th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba.<\/p>\n
In an official statement, the Council condemned what it called provocation and systematic violations in occupied East Jerusalem, including the closure of the Old City, restrictions against believers to enter Al-Aqsa and allowing the so-called “March of the Flag”.<\/p>\n
The Arab League stressed that these measures are part of a deliberate Israeli policy to Judaize Jerusalem, change the identity and historical, cultural and demographic character of the city.<\/p>\n
The statement reiterated that the Palestinian state has full legal sovereignty over occupied East Jerusalem and that Israel has no legitimate authority over the city or the Islamic holy places and Christians.<\/p>\n
The Council underlined that all unilateral measures of Israel are considered invalid under international law and have no legal effect, referring also to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.<\/p>\n
Also, the Arab League declared that the entire Al-Aqsa complex, with an area of 144 dunums, is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims and that its administration belongs only to the Waqf of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Affairs Department under the Jordanian administration.<\/p>\n
Ben Gvir’s visit to Al-Aqsa, during which he raised the Israeli flag and made provocative gestures under heavy police escort, came at a time of increased Israeli settler arrivals at this holy site for Muslims. \/message<\/p>\n
