Even without official membership, Ankara is deepening its strategic ties with Europe and the West<\/p>\n
Turkey’s relationship with the European Union has entered a prolonged phase of strategic ambiguity. While accession negotiations remain virtually frozen and full membership is no longer an immediate European priority, Ankara is steadily strengthening bilateral ties with key EU states.<\/p>\n
This new cooperation raises the question of whether full integration still remains a strategic imperative for Turkey.<\/p>\n
Recently, Turkey has intensified contacts with European leaders at a time when security, energy and supply chains are directly affected. from the crises in Ukraine and the Middle East.<\/p>\n
Talks with Spain, Italy and Germany have expanded cooperation in defense, industry and migration. Spain and Italy are deepening their partnership in the military industry, while Germany remains Turkey’s largest trading partner, with the EU absorbing around 40 percent of Turkish exports.<\/p>\n
On NATO’s eastern flank, Poland and Romania are emerging as Ankara’s key partners for maritime security and energy infrastructure in the Black Sea.<\/p>\n
Beyond the EU, Turkey is defending its place in the Western architecture through military cooperation with Britain. Great (for the Eurofighter Typhoon program) and the improvement of relations with Washington after the purchase of F-16 aircraft.<\/p>\n
