{"id":36796,"date":"2026-05-17T16:30:30","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T14:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/the-foreign-minister-of-turkey-on-an-official-visit-to-germany-on-monday\/"},"modified":"2026-05-17T16:30:30","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T14:30:30","slug":"the-foreign-minister-of-turkey-on-an-official-visit-to-germany-on-monday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/the-foreign-minister-of-turkey-on-an-official-visit-to-germany-on-monday\/","title":{"rendered":"The Foreign Minister of Turkey on an official visit to Germany on Monday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/thumbs_b_c_c87832c1f20cb4c43652e2fa2cd85bbe.jpg\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;margin-bottom:20px\"><\/p>\n<p>Turkey&#8217;s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will pay an official visit to Germany on Monday to participate in the third meeting of the Turkey-Germany Strategic Dialogue Mechanism, Turkish Foreign Ministry sources said, Anadolu reported.<\/p>\n<p>In the framework of the third meeting, which will be co-chaired by Fidan and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin, the working groups for bilateral relations, Turkey-European Union relations, security and defense, as well as regional issues will be gathered and reports will be presented to the ministers.<\/p>\n<p>During his meetings, Fidan is expected to express satisfaction for the constructive atmosphere in bilateral relations and the strengthening of dialogue that has resulted from the intensification of recent high-level contacts between Turkey and Germany.<\/p>\n<p>He is expected to emphasize that the Strategic Dialogue Mechanism provides a useful platform for assessing the strategic dimension of relations bilaterally and for strengthening cooperation and coordination between the foreign ministries of the two countries, expressing confidence that the talks will contribute to the further advancement of relations and the deepening of existing areas of cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>Fidan is also expected to emphasize that the Turkish community in Germany is an essential element that strengthens the human dimension of Turkey-Germany relations, noting that the importance is attached to the peace, security and prosperity of the diaspora Turkish.<\/p>\n<p>The Turkish foreign minister will discuss opportunities to further deepen the strong trade and economic partnership between the two countries and increase mutual investment.<\/p>\n<p>He is also expected to emphasize the common will to raise to a higher level the existing cooperation related to connectivity, high technology, digitalization and green energy, and to note that the upcoming Energy Forum and meetings of The Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) will significantly contribute to achieving the goal of a bilateral trade volume of 60 billion dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Fidan will highlight the strategic potential of connectivity projects connecting Europe with the Middle East, South Caucasus and Central Asia through Turkey, as well as exchange views on possible joint projects for strengthening military ties and cooperation in the defense industry with Germany.<\/p>\n<p>In accordance with the understanding reached between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Fidan is expected to say that holding the Fifth Defense Industry Cooperation Meeting later this year will further advance the bilateral partnership in this field.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Turkey-EU relations<br \/>\nFidan is expected to emphasize that Turkey-EU relations should progress on the basis of a comprehensive, institutionalized and multi-layered cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>He will underline the importance of starting negotiations for the modernization of the Customs Union and the reactivation of the Visa Liberalization Dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>The Turkish minister is also expected to point out that Germany&#8217;s support for updating the Customs Union would be of critical importance for unlocking the full potential of the Turkey-Germany economic partnership.<\/p>\n<p>Fidan will emphasize that a European security strategy that ignores Turkey&#8217;s strategic weight, capacities and geopolitical position would remain incomplete, and will reiterate that Turkey should be included in EU initiatives, projects and strategies in the field of security and defense.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Agenda for the Middle East and Ukraine<br \/>\nThe Turkish minister is expected to emphasize the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and supporting multilateral efforts to establish regional stability.<\/p>\n<p>He will reiterate Turkey&#8217;s support for efforts to permanently end the war between Iran and the US.<\/p>\n<p>The Turkish foreign minister will also reaffirm that direct talks between Ukraine and Russia are very important for achieving a fair and lasting solution to the war, stressing that Turkey will continue to coordinate with all actors to restore dialogue between the two sides.<\/p>\n<p>Fidan is expected to emphasize that Israel&#8217;s expansionist policies remain the main source of instability and insecurity in the region, while he will point out that the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has intensified violations of the cease-fire in Gaza and has accelerated policies aimed at eliminating the vision of the solution with two states.<\/p>\n<p>He will also emphasize the importance of the international community taking more effective responsibilities to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Turkey-Germany relations<br \/>\nBilateral relations between Turkey and Germany, two NATO allies, stand out for their long-term partnership and multidimensional structure that includes political, economic, human and security aspects.<\/p>\n<p>Recent high-level visits have further strengthened the positive dynamics in relations.<\/p>\n<p>Erdogan visited Germany on November 17, 2023, while German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited Turkey on February 5, 2025, and Chancellor Merz traveled to Turkey on October 29\u201330, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Fidan last visited Germany on November 28, 2025, while Wadephul visited Turkey on October 17, 2025 and on March 12 this year.<\/p>\n<p>Germany is Turkey&#8217;s second largest trading partner, with a current trade volume of $52.2 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Investments German investments in Turkey reached $13.5 billion between 2005 and 2025, while Turkish direct investment in Germany exceeded $4.7 billion in the same period.<\/p>\n<p>The next meeting of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee and the Seventh Energy Forum between the two countries is scheduled to be held in Ankara on June 19.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 6.7 million German tourists visited Turkey in 2025, reflecting the strong social and cultural interaction between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;
