Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that nuclear weapons are the “cornerstone” of Russia’s national security, according to the Russian medium Vesti, Anadolu broadcasts.<\/p>\n
Peskov said that Russia’s nuclear arsenal protects the country from threats to its existence.<\/p>\n
“A nuclear power cannot be threatened; its existence cannot be put at risk. This is what gives us the opportunity to be sure of this and this is the basis of nuclear deterrence,” he declared.<\/p>\n
Commenting on relations with Europe, Peskov said that the growing discussions within the European Union about possible negotiations with Russia constitute a “big change” and are in Moscow’s interest.<\/p>\n
“This active discussion on this topic (dialogue with Russia), the shift towards the idea that one day we will have to talk with the Russians – this is a good thing,” he said, recalling that Russia was not responsible for the disruption dialogue with Europe and that it is interested in rebuilding ties.<\/p>\n
Speaking of a possible EU negotiator for talks with Russia, Peskov referred to the head of EU diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, saying that “it is in her interest not to be a negotiator with Russia”. he.<\/p>\n
