French lawmakers on Monday denounced the latest Israeli attack against the global aid flotilla “Sumud” en route to Gaza in international waters, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n
Co-chair of the European Parliament’s Left Group, Manon Aubry, called the capture of the flotilla “a new act of piracy” and “an open disregard for international law”.<\/p>\n
“Full support for those who refuse to see the other side in the face of genocide in Palestine and war crimes,” Aubry wrote on the platform of the American social media company X.<\/p>\n
Jean-Luc Melenchon, leader of the left-wing La France Insoumise (LFI), also expressed support for the people on board the flotilla, who, according to him, “defy the most immoral army in the world to oppose a sadistic genocide.”<\/p>\n
“Once again with full impunity, war criminal Netanyahu violates international law. Support for comrades who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people,” LFI MEP Emma Fourreau also wrote on X.<\/p>\n
LFI parliamentary leader Mathilde Panot further described Israel’s attack as a “new intolerable act of piracy by Netanyahu’s army”.<\/p>\n
“We will never take our eyes off the genocide. that is still going on in Gaza. Compassion to all those who resist and are the honor of our common humanity!” wrote Panot in X.<\/p>\n
The Israeli military on Monday attacked and intercepted the Global Humanitarian Flotilla “Sumud” sailing to Gaza in international waters, detaining 100 activists as the mission sailed in an effort to break the suffocating blockade on the Palestinian enclave.<\/p>\n
The flotilla, made up of more than 50 ships, departed on Thursday from the Turkish Mediterranean district of Marmaris. in a new effort to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza, which has been in place since the summer of 2007.<\/p>\n
The flotilla said the mission included 426 participants, including 96 Turkish activists and participants from 39 other countries, including Germany, the US, Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Brazil, Algeria, Indonesia, Morocco, France, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Canada, Egypt, Pakistan, Tunisia, Oman and New Zealand.<\/p>\n
On April 29, Israeli forces also attacked the Sumud Global Aid Fleet off the coast of the Greek island of Crete.<\/p>\n
