The report noted that Iran has rejected that proposal, adding that a subsequent U.S. offer called for a 20-year enrichment ban, which Iran also rejected.

During recent discussions, the U.S. has indicated it may consider easing sanctions on Iranian oil exports if Tehran agrees to stop supporting proxy groups in the region, according to the report.

The report said that recent proposals suggest Iran may be open to transferring some of its stockpile of enriched uranium abroad. However, he said neither issue had been finalized and both were likely to depend on other aspects of a broader deal.

Trump said Monday he decided to delay resuming strikes on Iran after several regional countries informed him they believed a deal to end the war completely was close to being signed. He said the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and unspecified “others” asked him to delay the attacks “because they think they are getting very close to reaching a deal.” Axios reported that Trump spoke by phone with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates 24 hours before his announcement, adding that Arab leaders told Trump they do not want their facilities oil and energy to be damaged due to Iranian retaliation.

Regional tensions have escalated since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, prompting retaliatory strikes by Tehran and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire came into effect on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, but talks in Islamabad failed to secure a lasting agreement. The ceasefire was later extended indefinitely by Trump.

Since April 13, the US has implemented a naval blockade targeting Iranian maritime traffic in the strategic waterway.

Source: prizrenpost

In an effort to avoid further conflict, the US and Iran have exchanged several proposals and counterproposals in the past week, the Washington Post reported Monday, citing officials, Anadolu reports.
