But UEFA’s decision means those rules will not apply to the men’s and women’s Champions League, as well as its other club competitions.

FIFA is reacting to two major controversies this year, which it aims to avoid repeating at the World Cup. One of them happened during a Champions League match, theguardian reports.

Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior accused Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni of racial abuse after the latter covered his mouth with a shirt during a match in February. The Argentinian was handed a six-match ban by UEFA, three of which were suspended for two years, after being found guilty of homophobic behaviour.

In January, the Africa Cup of Nations final was marred by controversy after Senegal’s players walked off the field for 15 minutes in protest at a penalty awarded to Morocco.

Morocco’s Brahim Díaz missed the penalty, while Senegal won after extra time, but the Confederation of African Football’s appeals committee ruled Morocco a 3-0 winner in March, a decision Senegal has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

IFAB has not forced these changes to apply to all competitions. UEFA’s executive committee will meet for the last time this season in Istanbul on Wednesday and no rule changes are expected to be on the agenda.

Following this meeting, UEFA’s club competitions committee will approve the regulations for next season’s men’s and women’s competitions in Leipzig next week, with no major changes expected.

Uefa sources have revealed that the referees’ committee will monitor the impact of the new rules during the World Cup, in order to discuss possible changes in the next season.

Local leagues have the right to decide for themselves whether to adopt these rules. The Premier League will confirm plans for next season after the annual club meeting next month. Since so far only FIFA has confirmed their implementation, it is likely that they will not be adopted by other leagues.

Source: prizrenpost

UEFA has decided not to follow FIFA’s lead in introducing automatic red cards for players who cover their mouths when facing an opponent or leave the pitch in protest at a referee’s decision.
