The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, has stated that Albania was the “North Korea of Europe” and according to him today it is walking the path towards the European Union (EU).<\/p>\n
As part of his visit to South Korea, Rama participated in the opening ceremony of the Asian Leadership Conference, under the motto “Out of the turmoil – towards a new balance”.<\/p>\n
In his speech, Rama emphasized that the institutions are showing that democratic societies can be built even when history says it is impossible and that “a country once limited by isolation can be defined by aspiration”.<\/p>\n
“One Korea became a symbol of renewal through openness, sustainable democracy and innovation. The other became an emblem of terror through isolation, the rule of force and fear. This has never been but an abstract lesson for me, because throughout a painful chapter of its history, Albania was the ‘North Korea of Europe’ and yet today it is walking on another path. A path that is not easy, imperfect of course, but fundamentally different. A path of building institutions, democratic modernization, a path towards the European Union.” ideology.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Rama added that he is in Seoul, not as a person who gives lectures, but according to him “as someone who is still learning, learning from Korea, learning from its example”.<\/p>\n
According to the Prime Minister of Albania, the Asian Leadership Conference is a platform with global influence for the exchange of ideas, strengthening trust and building bridges of cooperation between different countries and generations.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Rama is conducting an official visit to the Republic of South Korea, meanwhile he met with Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, where the focus was on the discussions on relations between the two countries in several fields.<\/p>\n
