NATO Deputy Secretary General, Radmilla Shekerinska, emphasized on Wednesday the need for a stronger military deterrence to secure the alliance’s future, while simultaneously appreciating the increase in defense investments by Turkey, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the panel entitled “Embracing Change, Defending Tomorrow: Turkey and NATO in a Changing Security Landscape”, organized by the Directorate of Communications of the Republic of Turkey in Brussels, Shekerinska said that maintaining security throughout the alliance requires long-term commitments and increased defense capabilities.<\/p>\n
“It is clear that there are no shortcuts. To continue to protect our alliance, we need a strong military deterrence, we need a strong defense posture,” she said.<\/p>\n
She stressed that higher defense spending is essential “not only for now, but also for the years to come,” adding that stronger capacities military remains the most effective tool to prevent conflicts.<\/p>\n
Praising Ankara’s defense commitments, Shekerinska said: “Turkey’s plans to increase spending are impressive and clearly show your commitment not only to the alliance, but also to security.”<\/p>\n
