Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, has expressed concern about the way the US administration is handling the Iranian nuclear issue, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n

Citing an informed Israeli source, Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported that Netanyahu also expressed concern about a possible link between the cease-fire in Lebanon and a possible US-Iran deal.<\/p>\n

This comes after Trump said yesterday that a agreement with Iran to end the war is “mostly negotiated” and awaits finalization, following a visit to Tehran by Pakistani army chief Asim Munir, his second visit in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

The source said Netanyahu and the Israeli security establishment believe that “the Iranians are stalling for time and that Tehran will announce its unwillingness to make concessions in 60 days.”<\/p>\n

In a development related to the issue, the Israeli broadcaster said, the Israeli security cabinet is expected to meet in the evening amid reports of progress in negotiations between the US and Iran.<\/p>\n

Citing a statement from Netanyahu’s office, the broadcaster said Washington is keeping Tel Aviv informed of the ongoing negotiations.<\/p>\n

Netanyahu, during the conversation with Trump, stressed that Israel “will maintain its freedom of action against threats on all fronts, including Lebanon”.<\/p>\n

An anonymous Israeli official is reported to have said that the agreement in the making between Washington and Tehran is “bad”.<\/p>\n

It sends the message that the Strait of Hormuz is “a weapon in the hands of Iran no less effective than a nuclear weapon,” the source told the channel.<\/p>\n

Regional tensions have escalated since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran in February. Tehran retaliated with attacks on Israel and US allies in the Persian Gulf, as well as closing the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

A cease-fire took effect on April 8 brokered by Pakistan and then extended indefinitely by Trump.<\/p>\n
