A German court has ordered a man to pay a fine for insulting Chancellor Friedrich Merz on social media, ruling that the comment crossed the line of permitted political criticism and constituted defamation, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n

The court in Heilbronn found that calling Merz “Lackaffe”, a German insult that literally means “lacquered monkey” and roughly implies a slobbery person, does not constitute an expression of legal political.<\/p>\n

The court imposed a fine, but the authorities did not disclose the amount, citing privacy rules that do not allow the publication of data on the defendant’s income. According to the German news agency (DPA), the decision is not yet final, as the person has appealed.<\/p>\n
