North Korea has criticized calls by the foreign ministers of the US, Australia, Japan and India for its nuclear disarmament, saying it will never give up its nuclear weapons program, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n
The four countries reiterated their commitment to North Korea’s denuclearization in a joint statement released on Tuesday after talks between the top diplomats of the Quad security group in the capital. India, New Delhi.<\/p>\n
According to North Korean state news agency KCNA, an unnamed spokesman for North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said the country’s denuclearization “will never happen.”<\/p>\n
“Quad is nothing more than a political and diplomatic tool that serves the US strategy of unipolar dominance,” the spokesman said.<\/p>\n
The ministry said it “firmly” condemns what it described the Quad group’s hostile stance and urged the group to stop actions that undermine regional peace and stability.<\/p>\n
The statement added that the Quad’s move to strengthen cooperation aims to “justify Japan’s rearmament efforts and Australia’s possession of a nuclear submarine.”<\/p>\n
The spokesman said North Korea will continue to protect its sovereignty and security interests and oppose what described it as an exclusive alliance and a showdown of blocs in the region.<\/p>\n
Commenting on Pyongyang’s reaction, a South Korean Unification Ministry official said North Korea has long viewed the Quad as the basis for a possible Asian version of NATO and has repeatedly criticized the grouping.<\/p>\n
According to Seoul, North Korea’s reaction this year also targeted Japan and Australia and appeared to defend the position of China, unlike a similar statement last year that focused mainly on criticism of the US.<\/p>\n
