The UN expressed deep concern on Thursday about a record number of Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, after they killed at least eight people, including children, and caused new displacement in the south of the country, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters that the organization is “deeply concerned by the escalation of hostilities” and by Israeli attacks on southern Beirut, as well as attacks on intensified across southern and eastern Lebanon.<\/p>\n

“We again urge everyone to respect the cessation of hostilities and stop any further attacks,” Dujarric said, adding that “We reiterate that civilians and civilian infrastructure should never be targeted. We condemn the loss of civilian life.”<\/p>\n

According to Lebanon’s official National News Agency, at least eight people were killed early on on Thursday during the Muslim Eid al-Adha celebrations.<\/p>\n

Six members of a family, including children, were killed in a drone attack on a vehicle on the Adloun highway in the Zahrani region, while two other people were killed in a separate attack on a motorcycle in the southern city of Tyre.<\/p>\n

Another attack targeted a residential apartment east of Sidon, causing casualties and injuries, although an immediate response was not given. official death toll.<\/p>\n

The attacks came a day after the Israeli military issued evacuation warnings for areas south of the Zahrani River, saying it planned to target Hezbollah positions.<\/p>\n

Dujarric said the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) recorded approximately 670 shell trajectories on Wednesday, the highest number since a cease-fire took effect. hostilities brokered by the US on April 17.<\/p>\n

He added that UNIFIL has observed intense Israeli military activity, including airstrikes, armored vehicle movements, engineering operations and reports of ground incursions north of the Litani River.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the UN humanitarian office, OCHA, warned that renewed evacuation orders over a period of 48 hours have affected hundreds of thousands of people south of the Zahrani River, including residents of Tyre and Nabatieh.<\/p>\n
