Romania summoned Russia’s ambassador today after a drone identified by Romanian authorities as Russian crashed into a residential building in the southeastern city of Galati, injuring two people, Anadolu reports.<\/p>\n

Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Toiu said in a post on the American social media platform X that the Russian envoy was summoned to the Foreign Ministry after an “extremely serious incident”.<\/p>\n

“We have confirmation from the Ministry of National Defense that the drone that crashed into a residential building in Galati was of Russian origin,” Toiu said.<\/p>\n

According to Romanian authorities, a Russian drone struck a 10-story apartment block in the early hours of Friday, causing an explosion and fire that injured two people.<\/p>\n

“The security of Romania is our absolute priority,” Toiu said.<\/p>\n

She added that Bucharest will officially communicate that this incident will have consequences about diplomatic relations with Russia and will discuss “next steps at the European level regarding the sanctions packages”.<\/p>\n

Toiu also said that Romanian President Nicusor Dan convened the Supreme Council of National Defense this morning after the incident.<\/p>\n
