Democratic lawmakers said former Attorney General Pam Bondi has refused to answer questions about President Donald Trump’s involvement in the release of government documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. “She refused to answer any questions about President Trump. In fact, she said she would not talk or answer anything about President Trump,” he added during statements to reporters at the Capitol.<\/p>\n
James Walkinshaw, another Democrat on the committee, said former prosecutor Bondi told him she was “not sure of the extent of his knowledge” when asked whether Trump knew about Epstein’s crimes before the government documents were released.<\/p>\n
“She had the opportunity to say that Donald Trump was not aware of those crimes. She had the opportunity to say, ‘I know Donald Trump, and if he knew, he would have acted.'” Instead, she said, ‘He didn’t. di’,” he said.<\/p>\n
Trump has long sought to distance himself from Epstein, a former friend with whom he frequented the same social circles before the relationship broke down.<\/p>\n
Epstein died in custody at a New York detention facility in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy with minors. He previously pleaded guilty in 2008 in the US state of Florida to soliciting and recruiting minors for prostitution.<\/p>\n
