The President of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova from Bratislava said that Macedonia remains strongly committed to membership in the European Union, but expects to be treated equally and evaluated according to the Copenhagen criteria, and not through bilateral disputes and identity issues, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n
In a joint press conference with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, Siljanovska-Davkova stressed that the two countries are bound by ties. strong historical, cultural and spiritual and expressed confidence that the visit will contribute to the further strengthening of bilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n

\nShe emphasized that Macedonia and Slovakia have the potential to deepen economic cooperation, especially in the fields of energy, innovation, green transition, infrastructure and tourism, recalling the recent business forums and the opening of the Ohrid-Bratislava air line.<\/p>\n
Referring to the European integration process, Siljanovska-Davkova estimated that (North) Macedonia for a very long time faces obstacles that are not in line with the principles European.<\/p>\n
“Europe is our natural home – geographically, historically and culturally. What we ask is to be treated like everyone else, to be evaluated according to the Copenhagen criteria and to be given the opportunity to focus on reforms and the rule of law, instead of bilateral issues”, said the president of North Macedonia.<\/p>\n
Siljanovska-Davkova added that the integration of the Western Balkans is not only a political issue, but also an issue security and strategic, especially in the face of global geopolitical challenges and growing armed conflicts.<\/p>\n
The President of Slovakia, Pellegrini said that his country supports the European perspective of North Macedonia.<\/p>\n
“Slovakia supports the European perspective of North Macedonia and does so as a friend, partner and ally. But, at the same time, we clearly state that the enlargement process must be fair, predictable and based on the same rules that apply to all candidates”, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini said at the press conference after the meeting with Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, who is on an official visit to Slovakia.<\/p>\n
According to him, both North Macedonia and the region in which it is a part are very important for all of Europe and that it should be expanded, above all, in terms of stability. The Western Balkans, he emphasized, should not remain a space for competition and geopolitical games.<\/p>\n
“Slovakia’s position is clear: a stable, prosperous and European-oriented Western Balkans, because this is in the strategic interest of all of Europe,” said the president of Slovakia.<\/p>\n
