{"id":40455,"date":"2026-06-03T16:26:53","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T14:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/study-about-30-of-health-workers-in-europe-exposed-to-carcinogenic-risk-at-work\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T16:26:54","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T14:26:54","slug":"study-about-30-of-health-workers-in-europe-exposed-to-carcinogenic-risk-at-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/study-about-30-of-health-workers-in-europe-exposed-to-carcinogenic-risk-at-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Study: About 30% of health workers in Europe exposed to carcinogenic risk at work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/prizrenpost.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/16-1.jpg\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;margin-bottom:20px\"><\/p>\n<p>Almost a third of health and social care workers in Europe regularly face risks that can cause cancer during their work, a recent study has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>According to the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA), cancer remains the leading cause of work-related deaths in the European Union, causing around 100,000 deaths a year and exposing millions of workers to hazardous factors in the country. <\/p>\n<p>The study, carried out by EU-OSHA, included 24,402 telephone interviews with workers in Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland and Spain during the years 2022-2023. <\/p>\n<p>The results show that 47.3 percent of the workers included in the study in all sectors were exposed to at least one risk factor for cancer during the last week of work.<\/p>\n<p>In the health sector and social care, 29.5 percent of employees reported exposure to one or more carcinogenic factors, while 7.8 percent to two or more factors.<\/p>\n<p>The authors of the study pointed out that the risks from carcinogenic substances in the health sector have often been less visible compared to other economic sectors.<\/p>\n<p>The health and social care sector is one of the largest in Europe, employing over 21.6 million people, or about 11 percent of the total workforce.<\/p>\n<p>The study identified 24 known risk factors for cancer in the workplace, including industrial chemicals, physical risk factors and substances created during work processes.<\/p>\n<p>Among the most common risks for health workers were exposure to ionizing radiation, diesel engine fumes and ultraviolet radiation from the sun.<\/p>\n<p>According to the study, workers can be exposed to various carcinogenic factors throughout their professional life. The risk can come from the use of cleaning chemicals, medical procedures or working with equipment such as X-ray machines and radioisotopes.<\/p>\n<p>The research also found that certain occupations are more at risk, including diesel vehicle drivers and mechanics, anatomy lab workers and dental technicians who work with harmful materials.<\/p>\n<hr style=\"margin:30px 0\">\n<p style=\"font-size:13px;color:#666\">Source: <strong>prizrenpost<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Almost a third of health and social care workers in Europe regularly face risks that can cause cancer during their work, a recent study has revealed.
