Germany’s reluctance to condemn violations of international law by its allies, the US and Israel, is undermining its credibility and accelerating the erosion of the rules-based global order, according to a major report published on Monday, Anadolu reports.<\/p>\n
The 2026 Peace Report, produced annually by Germany’s leading conflict research institutes, warned that states are increasingly acting as “war commanders” and are using war as a “political tool”. It states that failure to counter this trend risks further escalation of violent conflicts around the world.<\/p>\n
The report strongly criticizes the foreign policy of the German government, particularly its reluctance to denounce unilateral US military actions, Israeli war crimes in Gaza and Israeli attacks in Lebanon and Syria.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy selectively denouncing violations of international law, while, through evasive language, appearing to tolerate violations by allies such as the US and Israel, Germany risks undermining its credibility as an international actor,” wrote the experts who called for an immediate change in Berlin’s approach.<\/p>\n
“We must begin by clearly identifying and publicly condemning flagrant violations of the rules, regardless of whether they are committed by allies or adversaries,” says the report, emphasizing that “Only then can an order of rules-based”.<\/p>\n
The Peace Report is the joint yearbook of the German Institute for Peace and Conflict Research, which includes the BICC (Bonn International Center for Conflict Studies); Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg (IFSH); Institute for Development and Peace (INEF); and the Leibniz Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF).<\/p>\n
