Germany called on Israel and Iran to reduce tensions and return to the diplomatic path to end their military conflict, following Sunday’s new escalation, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n

We call on all parties “to reduce tensions and advance diplomatic solutions, which, in fact, have been in negotiations for a long time. This is the position of the German government,” said German government spokesman Stefan Cornelius, at a news conference in Berlin.<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed his country’s “support for the US president’s efforts to reach a deal” with Iran.<\/p>\n

Tensions escalated on Sunday when Israel bombed the Lebanese capital Beirut despite a cease-fire in effect, prompting Iran to fire missiles at northern Israel in retaliation, while Israel responded with several waves of airstrikes against Iran.<\/p>\n

The region has been tense since the US and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran in late February, prompting Iranian retaliation against Israel and other countries in the region that host US assets.<\/p>\n

A temporary ceasefire was reached on April 8, but negotiations have since stalled due to disagreements over its implementation and subsequent regional developments.<\/p>\n
